Methodology

These oral history interview protocols were used during five years of data collection.  In 2020, the research team collected 28 oral histories. In 2021, the research team collected 36 oral histories.  In 2022, the research team collected 36 oral histories.  In 2023, the research team collected 29 oral histories.  In 2024, the research team collected 35 oral histories. 


Sampling:  View help for Sampling Narrators were invited based on their participation in the undergraduate research experience program or by volunteering to serve in a comparison group for the study by completing an online expression of interest form. 
Data Source:  View help for Data Source As part of a larger mixed-method study that began in 2020, URE participants were asked to volunteer to participate in a multi-year oral history project about identity, academic and social experiences, and aspirations. New participants were invited to join the oral history project in each subsequent year of the study (43 participants completed at least one oral history interview during the five-year study). All oral history interviews were held and recorded using Zoom. Recordings were transcribed verbatim using Rev.com.
