Project Description

Summary: This dataset contains information related to public school resources measured at the county level for ten southern U.S. states (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee) from 1910 to 1940. School resource measures include enrollment, attendance, number of schools, number of teachers, revenues from local taxes, expenditures, and salary information. In most cases, these data were reported separately for black and white schools, which were segregated at this time and place. ICPSR deposits include Stata and ASCII formats.
