View help for Summary
This project examines how China’s two major official media outlets—Xinhua News Agency and People’s Daily—cited scientific experts on their official social media accounts during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022). The dataset documents which experts were cited, when they were cited, and what types of statements were quoted. It also includes thematic coding of the cited content to capture the communicative functions these expert quotations served.
