Methodology

Response Rate:  View help for Response Rate 27%
Sampling:  View help for Sampling The original sample was provided by the client and NORC used the sampling procedures described below to draw the final sample. The original sample was gathered by collecting names from high school yearbooks before the 1975/1976 year.  These names were then given to Aristotle, Inc., a non-partisan, for-profit data vendor to match the names to the universe of registered voters in the United States. The treatment sample of n=1,200 was comprised of those bused during their high school career.  The control sample was comprised of those not bused during their high school years in Jefferson County. NORC randomly subsampled from a population of 7,600 lines to select 1,200 for the study with stratification based on graduation year and busing alphabet group.  Of the sample of 2,400, 21 were later determined out of scope as the respondent reported to NORC that they did not attend high school in Jefferson County.
