Project Description

Summary:  View help for Summary An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) survey was conducted of Waterloo Region residents from January 29th to February 1st of 2021, by Dr. Anthony Piscitelli with assistance from Mila Raic, Tahira, Safi, Olufemi Ajiboye, and Amandeep Grewal to explore attitudes towards investing in affordable housing.

Methodology

Response Rate:  View help for Response Rate The survey has a 13% contact rate and a 1.1% response rate. Results are considered accurate +/-4.3%, 19 times out of 20.  

In total, 412,570 number were called. A total of 55,004 respondents answered the phone and were potential respondents. A total of 519 people completed the entire survey. An estimate of 12.4% were not eligible to do the survey, either due to being too young or not living in Waterloo Region. The not eligible number was extrapolated by using the percentage of people not eligible based on responses to the first two questions. 
Sampling:  View help for Sampling The survey of Waterloo Region residents was conducted using an interactive voice response (IVR) phone survey methodology. Respondents completed the survey using their telephone keypad. The sample was randomly created using phone numbers that were originally assigned to Waterloo Region residents. Due to the ability to port numbers, respondents who moved into the region and ported a phone number were not eligible to participate in the survey. In addition, listed land line numbers in the Region of Waterloo were randomly added to the sample. The landline sample was drawn from numbers listed in the Waterloo Region phone book. Emergency phone numbers were removed from the randomly selected phone numbers.

This survey was approved by the Conestoga College Research Ethics Board. Sampling error, not included in the margin of error, exists due to the mismatch that is created by the random dialing of phone numbers as opposed to randomly sampling actual Waterloo Region residents.
