Project Description

Summary:  View help for Summary This phenomenological case study examines faculty hiring processes at Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) and the extent to which an HSI consciousness is present in their decision-making. The primary data consisted of 17 participant interviews at two HSIs both in the U.S. southwest (one along the U.S.-Mexico border and the other in a densely populated metropolitan area).

Collection Notes:  View help for Collection Notes The wording and order of specific questions may have varied slightly between interviews as I used institution-specific hiring policies to inform some of the questioning. However, all participants were asked questions from each of the major segments outlined in the protocol.

Methodology

Sampling:  View help for Sampling Purposeful sampling of individuals at selected sites that had served on a faculty hiring committee in the 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 academic year.
