Project Description

Summary:  View help for Summary This project established STEM Equity Learning Communities (SELCs) in universities across the U.S. Each SELC had faculty, staff, and undergraduate student members. They participated in a year-long curriculum that included equity-minded discussions of STEM courses, review of course equity data, and the development of presentations to campus audiences with recommendations for change. We administered a pre- and post-survey to SELC participants to understand what they wanted to get, and what they got, out of the experience. The pre-survey collected data about participants’ academic backgrounds; familiarity/experience with and attitudes towards equity-focused work in STEM (including data reports/dashboards); and pre-project expectations/concerns. The post-survey collected data about those same attitudes and the value of the project along multiple dimensions (e.g., overall value of the project, success of the project in relation to expectations, the value of student voices, and local impact of the project). We also surveyed audience members of their campus presentations to understand what they got out of the presentations.
