Folder Description

Summary:  View help for Summary This dataset includes data from the first wave, conducted in Fall 2008.  The survey included longitudinal questions about belief in climate change, plus additional content related to support for state and/or federal policies to address climate change, and more. Results are based on responses from 603 adult residents of the United States collected between September 8 and September 24, 2008. The margin of error for the survey is ±4% at a 95% level of confidence. At the same time, larger samples of households in California, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Mississippi were also surveyed, however only the data from the national sample are available in this collection. In 2008, only landlines were included in the sample. Interviews were conducted by the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The 2008 survey was developed in conjunction with the National Conference on Climate Governance at the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia. The survey instrument was designed by Barry Rabe of the University of Michigan and Christopher Borick of Muhlenberg College. The 2008 survey was funded by the WestWind Foundation, the Miller Center at the University of Virginia, the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion, and the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy at the University of Michigan.
